MYM pull out of KODE5 clash to prepare for ESWC defense

ImageThe reigning Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) champions have pulled out of the KODE5 invitational tournament to prepare fully for their ESWC defense.

The Polish Meet Your Makers (MYM) side have dropped out of the KODE5 CM Storm 2008 invitational tournament held at the Games Convention later this month to prepare for the ESWC finals, which are scheduled to begin only two days after the German event finishes.

The two day tournament held at the Games Convention in Leipzig originally invited the top three finishers from the KODE5 global finals in May, which were held in Moscow, Russia. The fourth team invited was the German Team Alternate. SK Gaming, who finished third, were unable to compete due to some of the players “flights leaving Stockholm on the 23rd”, according to Timothy 'merusame' Ellersiek, SK Gaming's team manager. The Swedes' spot was then granted to the fourth finisher – MYM.

MYM finished fourth in Moscow, losing to fnatic 1-2 in the semi-finals (14-16 de_train, 16-14 de_inferno, 6-16 de_nuke) and SK Gaming 1-2 in the third place decider (16-5 de_dust2, 6-16 de_train, 3-16 de_inferno), despite beating the eventual winner mTw.AMD in the group stages.

Ronnie Jelsbak, MYM's Counter Strike 1.6 manager, admitted that “the squad had been looking forward to participating” but due to a “sudden scheduling conflict” the team would not be participating. Their participation was announced just over three weeks ago and the likelihood is that MYM have decided to focus on the ESWC finals held in San Jose, USA, where they're the reigning champions.

The American event is held over August 25-27th and the team had a turbulent time qualifying as the aforementioned KODE5 finals clashed with the Polish ESWC qualifier. The team had also switched from PGS Gaming to MYM earlier in the year and lost their auto-berth as champions automatically. The team then played in the ESWC Masters event in Paris last month and failed to make it out of the group stages, meaning their participation was only granted when a deal was struck between ESWC, PGS and MYM earlier last week.

The team to replace MYM at the KODE5 invitational is TBH.eSports, another German team. Team Alternate, fnatic and mTw are participating in both the KODE5 tournament as well as the ESWC finals, where the winner of the former will automatically qualify for next years grand finals.
