After the American experiment this year, ESWC has decided to return to its homeland in 2009.

ESWC's grand finals will be returning to Paris in 2009. A press release sent out today confirms that next year's event will be held in the International Arena of Sport and Entertainment, Bercy.

This change of location represents a true home-coming for the French organisation, this being the third ESWC event to be held in Bercy in the tournament's seven year history.

The tournament will take place between June 26 and 28 next year. Although ESWC has come back to Europe, the finals will be run alongside another event, just like in San Jose last month. This time it will be competing for attention with the 4th Gaming Show of Paris.

The seventh ESWC campaign kicks off in Athens next month and will continue with national preliminaries and more 'Masters' tournaments until the grand finals next year. The Athens event begins on October 18.

Actually he's right, I know Bercy very well, and ask any Parisian, it's a bad place for music (the sound is horrible there) and it's also bad for the ESWC (in 2006 we couldn't see anything that was happening inside the tournament area except for the finals the last day...). The three days I spent there in 2006 as a spectator were crappy. Really. I've been to 5 ESWCs and the best ones were without the shadow of a doubt those organised in the Futuroscope center in Poitiers.

The people that pay for all the big tournaments there is, are either asian or in most cases americans, hence, moving shit to europe will make the tournament ALOT less attractive to the people with big pockets.

interesting point, i'm not sure if your right about it but i prefer that the tournament is held in Bercy. Be it because i felt the tournament was better in Bercy or because it was held in the same region where i live in.

I'm sure it's because the French think your attacking them. The community isn't used to positivity, it's all about being an asshole and arrogant :) That's why the majority of the community are children.

This was already the case in 2006, 2007 and 2008 Paris Masters. In 2005, I don't think there was another official event going on, but it had the same flavor as with the Gaming Show of Paris.
